About Neartool
What is Neartool?
Neartool is a collection of free AI tools that run on your device. You upload images to your browser, the AI processes them locally, and your files never leave your computer.
We focus on the image tools that matter most: alt text, image descriptions, captions, and hashtags. All powered by AI that's built into your browser.
How It Works
Neartool uses Chrome's built-in AI (the Prompt API) to analyze images on your device. Here's what that means:
- On-device processing: Your images are analyzed on your computer, not sent to a server.
- Private by default: Your images never leave your device. No analytics track what you're processing.
- No logins or credits: Use it as much as you want, for free, without signing up.
- One-time download: The AI model downloads once (~22 GB free disk needed), then runs offline.
Who Should Use Neartool?
- E-commerce sellers who need alt text and descriptions for hundreds of product photos.
- Content creators and bloggers who want to improve image SEO and accessibility.
- Accessibility teams drafting alt text for client content under NDA (nothing uploaded).
- Anyone who wants AI help with images without uploading or signing up.
Current Limitations
Neartool currently works best on:
- Desktop Chrome 50+ – That's where Chrome's built-in AI is available.
- Recent hardware – The AI model needs at least 10–15 GB of available RAM and disk.
- Connection recommended: The first model download is ~4 GB and works best on Wi-Fi.
Not yet supported: mobile browsers (Android/iOS), Firefox, Safari, or Edge (without Copilot integration).
Important Notes
AI output is a draft: The alt text, descriptions, and captions generated by Neartool are suggestions. Always review them—they may be incomplete, have errors, or miss important context. You're responsible for the final output.
Your content, your responsibility: You must own or have rights to any images you process. Neartool is a tool; you're responsible for how it's used.
No guarantees: Neartool cannot guarantee that output meets any accessibility standard (WCAG, ADA, EAA). Use it to draft and improve alt text, but have a human review critical content.
Privacy & Ads
All image processing happens on your device. The only data we see is basic hosting logs (from Cloudflare). We don't track what you're processing or analyze images.
Neartool shows ads to stay free. Ads load in separate frames and never see your images. See our privacy policy for details.
What's Next?
We're building more tools on the same platform:
- Document tools (PDF summarization, translation)
- Writing tools (grammar, tone, rewriting)
- Later: a Pro tier (ad-free, batch export, larger processing)
All with the same philosophy: your data stays on your device, all tools run locally, no accounts required.
